It's quite a good redo in my opinion, I always like songs redone in a different genre, because it showcases the artists' skills and at the same time takes me on a trip down memory lane. It's car related in as far as "hangin out the passenger side of his best friends ride tryin to holler at me"

I've definitely heard the original but I don't remember what it sounds like.

All I know is that this version was really good and I got the free download. I'ma like this "TheSoundYouNeed" facebook page and check out what else they promote. Two songs in and I'm liking what they got so far.

Do you know anything more about this... "brand"?

while I respect the cover, I do not respect the original song. to me, for a cover to be great, it has to be a great song to begin with, covered by a great band that doesn't do a literal translation, but instead improves upon the original version. for example, off the top of my head:
